Do you know that you can use solar energy to power your home and decimate your power bills? These days you can even upgrade modern home solar power systems if you need more power. They are also much less expensive than older systems and allow homeowners with even the smallest investment to take advantage of this amazing alternative energy system for their homes.
The benefits of new solar power systems is that they are simpler than older systems and allows much more flexibility in what components you can use to build the perfect system for your home. Older systems were much more rigid and didn't allow a lot of expansion of the home solar power system once it was installed. Also, because very few standards for this type of equipment existed, there was not a lot of opportunity to blend components from various manufacturers into a single system. In most cases parts used had to bee from the same company. This effectively eliminated competition and made these early systems more expensive than necessary as a result.
In contrast, a modern home solar power system is intentional to be easy to extend and can support a wide variety of dissimilar component brands in the same system. This allows a homeowner a choice when designing their home solar power system to make it exactly the way they want. A homeowner can simply upgrade the system to make savings greater even when system once has been installed. The older system offered very little opportunity for expansion once installed. This meant you had to install as large of a home solar power system as you would ever need when you switched to solar and this made the initial investment too expensive for many homeowners. Now you can expand your home solar power system slowly over time and you can install a smaller inexpensive system initially and then increase your savings over time as you add solar panels to your existing system. This allows you to enjoy the savings the initial system provides the day it is installed and save even more as you invest in more equipment.
Not only are you helping mother nature reduce pollution it is a great investment as well. By installing a solar power system you immediately increase the value of your home. Prospective buyers see a home solar power system as a huge advantage over a more traditional home with grid supplied power. Also, unlike many upgrades that homeowners do to their homes that lose most of their value over time, a home solar power system will make money for you even years after its been installed. This is because many of these newer systems are designed to last for decades with very little maintenance and because they eliminate an every-increasing energy cost from the home´s budget they actually become more valuable over time. And you can make even greater savings with all the rebates and incentives from the government.

Solar Power For Home Use
Solar power is becoming a very attractive option for alternative energy sources. By producing your own electricity you can stabilize your electric bill and at the same time help the environment. There are a few options for people who want CSP including dish engine systems and parabolic troughs.
Trough systems are available today. Although they are still relatively expensive, the costs are dropping making this something that will become adopted on a residential scale. Creative financing options are in place that help homeowners adopt their own home solar power systems. This all depends on the amount of money that will be pumped into the research and development.
There is a lot of development happening in the southwestern United States which are creating new technologies to bring down the cost to compete with fossil fuels. With new thermal storage technologies being developed, the homeowner will no longer need to use fossil fuels when sunlight doesn't show. This allows you to generate and store electricity like a battery would.
The low cost of fossil fuel is one of the major reasons why solar power hasn't caught on. There is also a lot of attention being paid to photovoltaic systems.
Alternative sources of energy whether they involve solar, wind, or bio fuels will be essential to sustaining our environment. This also has national security implications because we rely heavily on foreign sources of oil from places that do not like us very much. Financial incentives in states such as California, Nevada, Arizona, and Mexico where the grid parity is less, are high which have encouraged thousands of homeowners to switch to alternative energy.

Uses of Solar Photovoltaic Systems
Solar photovoltaic systems are also known as PV systems. These systems comprising an array of PV cells which captures the energy from the sun directly and converts it into electricity. Some of the materials for making photovoltaic systems include monocrystalline silicon, polycrystalline silicon, microcrystalline silicon, cadmium telluride and copper indium sulphide.
There is an increasing demand for alternate and renewable sources of energy to meet the ever growing energy needs. With the advancement of solar technology the production of photovoltaic systems has increased by more than two times during the past decade or so. No wonder then photovoltaic production is one of the fastest growing technologies in the world today. The best way to describe solar photovoltaic technology is that it is a technique that helps in the generation of solar power by converting the solar energy into electricity through the use of PV cells.
The photovoltaic systems generate electricity directly by using the sun's radiation. The electricity so generated is used for meeting different kinds of energy requirements. It is used for powering electric devices and electronic appliances and for recharging batteries. Initially PV cells were used for generating power for spacecraft and orbiting satellites. Nowadays, a large number of PV modules are applied for creating grid connected power generation. By using and inverter you can convert DC power to AC power. This power can be used to generate electricity for rural homes, power boats, electric cars and recreational vehicles.
You can now build photovolataic systems on the roof top of your homes. You can use the power generated from the photovoltaic systems as a main source of electric power or use it as an alternate source. By using it as a main source of power you will be able to save on long term electricity costs as you will no longer have to pay regular electricity bills to your local utility company. Lastly, you will be able to generate electricity in an unpolluted manner and contribute to a clean and green environment.

Home Solar Power Systems
At present, many people are struggling to pay their bills. Even if you don't have car payments or credit card bills, we all have utility bills. A lot of people are really trying to lower their monthly power bills and are turning to alternative means, such as adding home solar power systems. These systems use the sun which is a free and renewable source of energy. This free energy can be used to run all kinds of things, your appliances, your computer, your TV, anything that runs on traditional power.
Once you've installed your solar power systems, you will find that it is relatively maintenance free. This is a huge advantage, especially for people who are on the go and always busy. They don't need to worry themselves with constant repairs.
When home solar panels were first introduced they were not very clumsy and not very nice to look at. A lot of people did not want to even think about using them because they were just plain ugly. But today the technology has really improved and the panels are more attractive and aesthetically pleasing to look at. They look much more natural and blend into the house. Also solar panels last a real long time. Most last around 30 years or more.
Home solar power not only allows the residents to use the free power generated from the sun, which also can not only substantially reduce their power bills, but it is also very beneficial for the environment. So if you are one of the many people today who are interested in saving our planet, you should really look into solar energy. You can find a lot of good resources online. You can even get downloadable ebooks that teach you step by step how to create your own system that is powered by the sun. Once you pay a small fee, you can download them and start right away.

The principles of solar electricity
A solar panel generates electricity using the ‘photovoltaic effect, a phenomenon discovered in the early 19th Century, when it was observed that certain materials produced an electric current when exposed to light.
To create this effect, two layers of a semi-conducting material have to be combined. One layer has to have a depleted number of electrons. When exposed to sunlight, some of the photons are absorbed by the material which excites the electrons, causing some of them to ‘jump’ from one layer to the other. As the electrons move from one layer to another, a small electrical current is generated.
The semi-conducting material used to build a solar cell is silicon. Very thin wafers of silicon are cut and polished. Some of these wafers are then ‘doped’ to contaminate them, thereby creating an electron imbalance in these wafers.
The wafers are then aligned together to make a solar cell. Conductive metal strips are attached to the cells to take the electrical current.
When a photon hit the solar cell, it can do one of three things: it can be absorbed by the cell, be reflected off the cell or pass straight through the cell.
If a photon is absorbed by the silicon, this causes some of the electrons to ‘jump’ from one layer to another. An electrical circuit is made as the electrons move from one layer to another, creating an electrical current.
The more photons (i.e. the greater intensity of light) that are absorbed by the solar cell, the greater the current generated.
Solar cells generate most of their electricity from direct sunlight. They can also generate electricity on cloudy days – and some systems can even generate very small amounts of electricity on bright moonlit nights.
Individual solar cells typically only generate tiny amounts of electrical energy. To make useful amounts of electricity, these cells are connected together to make a solar module, otherwise known as a solar panel or, to be more precise, a photovoltaic module.
