Home Solar Power Systems For Domestic Use

Using home solar power systems in the U.S. is a concept that is still evolving. Compared to other nations like Germany, China and Spain, the U.S. is slow to catch on. Less than 1% of the electricity used in the nation is solar power, and much of that is probably in California.

Power companies in the U.S. currently operate by burning fossil fuels. Solar energy requires mirrors that reflect the rays of the sun to generate heat. That heat then helps to operate a generator and provide power. The solar photovoltaic panels that can be found atop house roofs and high-rise office buildings operate based on this process.

Perhaps one reason Americans have been slow to embrace the concept has to do with the cost of producing solar energy. It is extremely expensive, costing anywhere from two to four times what people pay to burn coal or use other forms of energy. Both consumers and power companies have been reluctant to take on the cost. The government has tried to assure potential converts by easing that burden. It has offered tax and stimulus incentives for those who begin to use solar energy.

In an effort to practice what it preaches, one government entity-the Obama White House-has confirmed plans to add solar panels and a hot water heater powered by solar energy by spring 2011. The New York Jets headquarters location has agreed to similar changes, as has the Kennedy Space Center for NASA. In recent press announcements, the White House has revealed the move is part of a Department of Transportation initiative to show citizens that solar energy is reliable. The Jets planned conversion is projected to save 540 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions a year.

As a leading state in solar energy reform, California will have an important role to play, too, in demonstrating the viability of solar energy. A $1.4 million government loan will enable the state to build a solar power plant in the middle of the Mohave Desert. That plant will generate power for almost 140,000 homes.

There is even news that scientists have come up with a technology that can be sprayed on windows to make them operate in the same way as photovoltaic panels. This means that existing windows can be converted for minimal equipment costs. It also eliminates the excuse of costly equipment that frequently prevents conversion.

Many potential believers also fear not being able to have much electric power at night - since there is no sun at that time. There have been plausible solutions to this challenge. The use of molten salts in pipes might help allay fears, since they can store heat energy from the sun to be released later. These salts have been known to kick out energy for almost eight hours after the sun has set.

No matter how skeptical some consumers choose to be, home solar power systems are becoming a strong alternative as renewable energy sources. If the use of it is a success for the leader of a nation and his family, it will surely become a reality for many other homes across the land somewhere in the close future.

Solar Power Systems

More and more people are becoming aware of the need to find renewable ways to generate electricity, photovoltaic generated electricity has gained popularity due to it's ability to be environmentally friendly and an excellent supply of renewable electrical power. PV solar power systems are an obvious option for those that are in search of an alternative supply of electrical energy.

Sun powered solutions create electricity silently and with out any moving parts. Sunlight is collected inside the solar panels to create DC electrical power. That DC energy is converted into AC electrical power for residential use by the inverter. The AC power is fed into your electrical meter and circuit breaker panel. The power then goes either to your appliances and lights, or is fed back again in to the grid, or both.

You will discover two types of solar power systems: off-grid and grid- interconnected. Off-grid photovoltaic electric systems have no connection to the electric power utility grid and use batteries to supply your home when conditions are not favorable for solar energy supplies alone, for instance, on a cloudy day or during adverse climate situations.

Grid-interconnected designs connect the PV electric powered plan to the utility grid. This means that when there isn't sufficient sunlight to power your home, it is drawn from the grid. When a surplus of solar power is produced, the excess is fed back in to the utility grid to become utilized by other buyers.

Grid-interconnected solutions are less complex, they tend to be simpler to install and much less expensive simply because they do not demand batteries. Off-grid PV heating tools are usually applied where there is no existing electrical service and by those who wish to have complete independence from the grid.

A drawback of off-grid devices is the inefficiencies of charging and discharging the batteries. They tend to be much less efficient than grid-interconnected techniques.

If you are on the grid the utility business stores the energy for you. The utility firm keeps track of the electrical power you employ on an hourly basis. On a sunny day you can develop additional energy than you might be making use of, so you can build up credits. Ideally, the aim of one's PV electric platform is to supply a lot more than you use and end up with a rebate from your supplier.

At night or during cloudy days, the photovoltaic system's output is reduced or even stopped. Your house will then gets it is electricity from the utility grid. As you will be constantly linked towards the grid you'll have as much power as you need, when you need it, regardless of how much electricity your home solar power systems have managed to generate. If your solution produces an excess of power your meter will spin backwards, counting down your electrical bill.

Benefits of Using Solar Energy

The benefits of solar energy includes being renewable and also a very clean energy.

In other words, it can make heat and electricity without using unsustainable fuels, and it doesn't pollute the atmosphere with horrible gases, such as carbon dioxide.

On the other hand, fossil fuels such as oil, gas and coal, and which are used to deal with some 95% of the World's total energy demands, are finite and pollutants, filling our poor atmosphere with nasty toxic gases like carbon dioxide, and contributing to the ever-increasing problem of global warming. It's definitely time we ended our long-standing dependency on them!

But solar power isn't just environmentally friendly, it is also extremely friendly to your pocket!

Yes, it's true that start-up costs can be fairly high. But these are gradually decreasing and, once they've been paid, you can get your lighting and heating free. No more electricity bills arriving each month! And, you'll also relish your new-found independence.

Solar power can be used by individuals in their homes to generate electricity and heating, be the latter for water or for space.

Basically, what you'll do is to install home solar panels with solar photovoltaic cells, which will convert the sun's rays into electricity.

Obviously, you can pay a reputable company to install these. Although fairly expensive, the price does go down each year and, on top of that, many governments offer grants to help encourage the use of solar power.

What's more, you'll discover more and more manuals popping up on the Internet which explain how to build and maintain your own solar system. If you're any good at DIY, this is a really affordable option!

Going onto a larger scale, some areas now also have huge solar power plants, where high temperature collectors use hundreds of mirrors or lenses to harness light from the sun and generate electric power.

So, isn't it time you did your bit for the environment and considered solar energy? For it's renewable, clean, and increasingly cost-effective!

The first is that this motor or generator is capable of running itself once set in motion and hence is cheap and easy to use and maintain. It is an excellent way to light up your homes especially those who live in trailers or own RVs; with magnetic energy, there is no need to be dependent on gas anymore. These reasons are enough for anyone to start thinking of building a magnetic motor to create free electricity.

A magnetic generator is capable of producing energy on its own; the magnets create a magnetic force which can bring about perpetual motion generating electricity. Since it can perpetually or indefinitely for any number of years, it is an ideal solution as a renewable energy source. Moreover the generator consumes very less energy than it actually gives out and can produce free energy which can be used to power up your homes and offices without the need of spending big bucks.

The biggest advantage or benefit of using such a magnetic energy generator is that it has the potential to generate free electricity. It also requires very less money to keep this machine running; the building costs of this generator is also very less and it can also be made at home. You would only take a day or two to build this magnetic motor which can be put to use immediately and hence you can immediately start saving on your money. What better way to say goodbye to rising electricity bills.

No emissions of gases are released from this generator and it is extremely environment-friendly. DIY Solar and Wind Solutions

For those of us that want to save our hard earn money on electricity and convert renewable resources, it is a great new to hear that purchasing and installing home solar panels and home wind turbines have become more and more of a feasible option without costing us a fortune.

Home solar panels for instance have come a long way over the years, from large panels to much thinner layers of film that are much more effective than their predecessors. Solar energy is even being implemented for small technology like cell phone chargers.

Buying a solar power system for your home can costs thousands and thousand of dollars but do-it-yourselfers are now building their own for much less than what it normally costs. This has been a major problem for homeowners whereby the savings for employing solar powered energy would not recoup the initial costs quickly enough. It's one thing to be green but being green should certainly also save you money.

There are two main types of solar water heater systems. The "Passive Solar Water Heater" system involves mounting the tank above the panels. Though this is advantageous by using gravity to produce water flow where needed some people prefer the "Split Solar" system. This system allows for the tank to be in the same location as your current tank. Even though a small pump is needed to get the water where it needs to go, the tank is better insulated meaning the water stays heated longer.

Solar panels and even a complete solar power system can now be built as a DIY project! With the right tools, materials and instructions even the newbie DIYer can build an entire DIY solar power system and save thousands on energy costs without spending thousands for a retail system and installation.

Build Solar Panels

If you have seen solar panels on top of other homes, you've probably wondered how it can be done. It really is not too difficult, time-consuming, or expensive.

And the rewards will benefit both your wallet and the planet.

Building solar panel will require tools you should have in your garage, plus some other materials you can get at a recycling center or even eBay. You don't need an engineering degree, just a desire to provide an alternative power source in your home, and some free time.

First you will need some solar cells to join together. Don't buy the cheapest, and select the ones that already have tabs to hook them together. The number of cells you need will depend on how much power you need to generate. Most DIY cells deliver only about 80% of what they claim, so be sure to take that into account. Usually the number of cells per panel is 36.

Next you will need a wooden frame like a box, which you can build to the correct size, some clear plastic paneling, black paint, silicone, glue and wiring.

Build the frame box and paint it black.

Now you will just join the tabs of the cells together, usually six per row for 6 rows. Join the tabs to ensure that the electricity produced flows only in one direction.

Place inside your wooden frame, that you have painted black. Secure a clear sheet of plastic on top and seal it with silicone.

Now you need to connect this panel to a storage battery. The storage battery will store up the sun's energy for times when it is cloudy or during the night. You may want to consult an electrician for this, or if you feel comfortable enough, a DIY installation guide should take you through this step very carefully.

Now you are ready to mount the system on your rooftop. Be sure you have a wide open space to place your DIY solar panels. Try to find a south-facing surface, as that will capture maximize the effectiveness.

The wiring and the box should be well insulated to avoid heat loss.

There you have it. While you consider learning how to build a solar panel, keep in mind that you are not only doing this to protect your wallet, but also to protect the environment. The sun is always going to be here, why not take advantage of it instead of the non-renewable fossil fuels.

Being Environmentally Friendly With Solar Panels

Home solar power systems are a groundbreaking new method to harness energy from the sun, rather than relying on limited resources such as fossil fuels.

As we move forward into an age in which our standard source of energy for the past decades and centuries has begun to dry up, everyone-from huge companies and large factories to the individual who simply wants to keep the lights on in his or her living room-must begin to look for new forms of energy to solve the upcoming crisis. Luckily, one solution hangs large and bright right before our very eyes: we're talking, of course, about all the potential for energy that can be harnessed from our sun.

Solar panels have become increasingly common in the past few years, and as they have gained acceptance in more mainstream industries, they have been hailed as an incredibly earth-friendly solution to our modern day crisis. Though everyone has undoubtedly heard at least a little bit about these solutions, the average person is unaware of the precise mechanisms of how they work. We'll explain the function of solar panels, then move on to the myriad of exciting, innovative benefits that they can confer to individuals and businesses alike-and, ultimately, to the entire planet.

To begin with the more technical side of things: solar panels are also known as photovoltaic modules or photovoltaic panels. The name derives from the fact that these are composed of a interconnected network of solar cells, which are also known as photovoltaic cells. The sun emits a form of energy in photons; these cells work to capture the energy of photons through a process called the photovoltaic effect. While the exact process is much more complex, in simple terms, the photovoltaic effect allows solar energy to be converted to electrical energy of the kind that can be harnessed for everyday use. This is the most basic and yet the most essential process that defines the importance of this new solution.

Each photovoltaic cell, however, does not produce much of an effect on its own. Many, many cells are linked together to create one solar panel. Even in this formation, however, each panel is only capable of producing a relatively limited amount of energy. That is why well-designed systems combine several different solar panels to collect the most possible energy from the sun. These multi-panel structures are known as a photovoltaic array. In its final stage, a completed photovoltaic installation includes not only cells and panels but also wiring, batteries, and an inverter. Because they must be exposed to the sun in order to function, these arrays are often vulnerable to natural dangers such as moisture, which can destroy wiring and interfere with transmission, or other inclement weather conditions such as hail or sleet. Designers of these photovoltaic systems are careful to maximize energy efficiency and sturdiness. Completed modules might be either flexible or extremely rigid and durable.
